Mayan temples and goodbye Mexico

23 November, San Jose, Costa Rica

Yesterday I I left Merida to make my may to Mexico City and from there to San Jose. I was not feeling so well and the two hour delay of my second flight didn't really help to lift my mood. But then, when I stepped into the my Uber at 12.30 am and the driver was just the the perfect version of a friendly, happy Tico, and I saw the lights of this cosy city between the mountains, I had the kind of feeling that I am coimg home. After a few hours of so-so sleep in a dormbed I woke and felt exhausted. I think my body and mind are just starting to cope with alle the different things I did in the last two month. So I decided to get out of San Jose by tomorrow and just make my way to the beach- Playa Samara, the beach village close to the turtle project I was working in 5 years ago. Now I am looking forward to my private (!) room and some days of relaxing.

But first I need to catch up a bit with my last week in Mexico. I ended the last post with my trip Xpujil where I had a tour to the ruins of Calakmul. IFor this tour I got picked up at 7.30 and went with a french couple, 3 canadians a Peruvian woman and anoyher german girl to the archeologial site of Calakmul, which was a very big mayan city 1500 years ago. The road there is really long and really bad, thats why it is not really touristic (yet). This day was actuallt the only day of my three weeks trip that it was raining, so that was a  pity because the views were all a bit clouded.
The ruins are in the middle of the rainforest.
A so called stela with 1000 year old insciptions. These were made for Maya kings in case of great events, like war, good harvest, etc. In the top you can maybe see a face in profile. of the raingod Chaak.
Crazy person jumping on top of a pyramid...
My group. Despite the rain, all pretty happy :D

I would like to show a lot more pictures here, but the slow Internet is killing me :D
The day after Calakmul I wanted to go to Campeche, and I got offered a ride by the french couple in my group who were going there as well. This was very nice, because like this I could see some more temples on the way.
