First month

This is going to be another phone post because of the lack of a computer at the moment.
Today, one month ago, I arrived in Mexico. Time flies by, doesn't it? And as like a present for this day I had a really good morning out on the beach working with the turtles. After a few days of walking 10-20 km in the morning (because the ATV failed), Lucio fixed it yesterday so we could cruise today. Also there has been some cold (22degrees!) weather and lots of rain the last days, so I was happy that this morning was promisingly warm and dry. So at 7am we left, to be honest with little hope to find nests or babyturtles as the last days were always 'empty'. But then we found to perfectly put nests with 92 eggs each and we came just in time to accompany 3 hatching nests on their way to the sea! :) We also saw some nice hawks and eagles and I tried some fresh Hicaco fruit which were offered to me at our daily meet up with 'El Capitan'. He walks roughly 5 km of 'our' beach and advises us if there are new nests so we can save some fuel. He talks very fast with a very strong dialect so I hardly understand him but he seems to be an interesting person- a former fisherman who lives day to day from what he manages to gather and who had lots of stories (some of them I doubt their truth).
On the way back with the wind in my face and the sun in my back I was feeling very happy to have made this decision of traveling and joining the project. Since Jan left a couple of days ago I also feel a bit closer to the rest (the Mexicans ;)) which is really nice!
Next week will be my last week and we will be busy with a lot of groups. Then on Sunday I will go to this firm who produces metal straws to sign a contract with the foundation so a little of the income will be donated to the foundation. As a symbolic act I was collecting straws on the beach to make a video and show the amount of straws that can be saved by using a metal straw. In two days I collected a bag full and I didn't pick up every straw because I would still be busy....
I will be leaving the foundation on the 30th and go to Veracruz. On the 31st I booked a flight to Mérida. The flight costs as much as the bus but is only 1,5h instead of 15, so choices were made. I found it very hard to make a choice for my next destination because there is so, so, so much to see in this country. So at some point I just booked the ticket and I'll see from there what to do next.
Well now I will finish painting the ATV, which is necessary because of the very quick erosion of the metal due to sand, salt and heavy use. And walking the beach I realized how valuable this ATV is to the daily work here.
I hope I'll be able to post some pictures soon!
